The idea for Saviour Oil began with a familiar experience: the often-overlooked demands of bedtime.
As parents, we found ourselves approaching the evening already exhausted. Operating on very little sleep, between work, dinner, baths and the constant mental load of family life, we often felt so overwhelmed that finding even a moment for ourselves seemed impossible. With children who weren't sleeping well, bedtime had become something we'd started to dread.
We wanted to approach those moments differently.
Our intention was to create something that encouraged us to slow down and spend a little time connecting with our children. A product that could become part of a simple massage ritual, bringing a sense of intention to an otherwise busy evening.
But we were equally interested in what happened after bedtime.
We wanted to create something for the parent, too.
Considering the Parent
When we began developing Saviour Oil, much of what we encountered in the children's market was unmistakably designed for children. Bright packaging, sweet fragrances and playful presentation.
Yet the person applying these products was often a parent whose own needs received considerably less attention.
We wanted to acknowledge that person.
We wanted to bring the considered formulation and sensory experience of luxury skincare into a product designed for the everyday rituals of family life.
We considered the experience of using it as carefully as its intended purpose. The texture, fragrance and formulation all needed to appeal to adults without losing sight of the youngest members of the family.
It was an approach that would become fundamental to POM: creating products for families while recognising that parents deserve care themselves.
A Formulation with More Than One Purpose
Our initial vision centred on bedtime, but researching the ingredients introduced us to possibilities beyond the evening routine.
We became increasingly interested in botanical oils and their individual properties. We selected sweet almond, evening primrose and sunflower oils, bringing together carefully chosen botanical ingredients in a formulation intended to extend beyond the bedtime routine.
Our intention was to create an oil that could move naturally between the needs of children and parents.
We also considered how the product might become part of a mother's own routine during the postpartum period, when opportunities for personal care can be particularly limited.
Our ambitions for Saviour Oil had expanded. We wanted to create something families could return to in different ways, at different stages of life.
Something that might become a true saviour in more ways than one.
Developing POM Calm Blend™
Alongside Saviour Oil, we were developing what would become our proprietary POM Calm Blend™.
Rather than beginning with a finished blend and incorporating it into an existing product, we developed the two together.
This allowed us to establish our approach to formulation from the outset: selecting ingredients with purpose and considering how they would work together within the finished product.
We believed that a formulation should be understood in its entirety, rather than defined by a single ingredient.
It was a philosophy that would subsequently guide the development of Soothing Spray and Calm Balm.
Saviour Oil became the first POM formulation we approved.
The Art of Fragrance
Fragrance was always going to play an important role in Saviour Oil.
We wanted something distinctive, but understated and it needed to appeal, first and foremost, to the parent.
Working directly with our formulator, we held a scent workshop to explore different possibilities.
We were particularly drawn to lavender and bergamot.
Lavender offered a familiar floral character, while bergamot introduced a fresh, more sophisticated note. Together, they created the balance we'd been looking for.
The resulting combination felt clean, balanced and distinctive.
It remains our favourite fragrance in the POM range.
Beyond Bedtime
Although Saviour Oil began with the evening routine in mind, we never intended its use to end there.
We wanted a product that could move naturally between different moments in family life. From a gentle massage with a child to a parent's own evening ritual, its purpose was always broader than a single application.
That versatility has become one of the aspects we appreciate most.
In our own homes, Saviour Oil has found its place in bedtime massages, after-shower hydration and the occasional quiet moment we manage to claim for ourselves.
The rituals may differ, but the intention behind them remains the same: making a little room for care in the midst of everyday life.
Where It All Began
Looking back, Saviour Oil established much of what we wanted POM to become.
It brought together our interest in considered formulations, natural ingredients and the sensory experience of luxury body care. More importantly, it reflected our belief that products developed for families should consider everyone within them.
We began with a desire to make bedtime feel less hurried and create more opportunities for connection with our children.
But we also wanted to create something for ourselves.
Our hope is that every evening, Saviour Oil serves as a small reminder to parents that they deserve a moment of their own. A simple ritual that brings a little luxury to the everyday, and an opportunity to care for themselves with the same consideration they give to everyone else.
